Watching her mental breakdowns is one of the hardest things I've ever had to see.
My Mom has always been one of the strongest people I have ever known. Raising 9 children is not an easy thing. Even with some mistakes, all of her children love her with all their heart.
I can only see this as her eventual transition from this life to the Eternities. It is amazing to see the changes they go through. I love watching their personalities develop. Kara is so full of unconditional love. Sure, she does the normal annoying 2 year old things, but she is always quick to say "Me sorry Daddy". She loves to "read" books and have books read to her. My girl is very good at making messes. She likes to put her toys or any other items into organized lines according to categories. I know she will follow in her mother's footsteps. Someday she will share all the love in her heart with her own children.
Christopher is just 7 months old now and he is already growing into a miniature man. He and I enjoy having "grunting sessions". I'll let out some manly grunts and growls and he follows suite. It's just the best way for two guys to bond. I hope I can do the right things to help him grow into a better man than I. Having a son is the most amazing thing. I see in him all the things I once was. I think of his potential and hope he takes advantage of the opportunities I didn't. I know someday he will be a great man.
These things will happen mostly because of the mother they have been blessed with.

What do we do?

As I saw the front page of the newspaper today, I was saddened to see another act of evil. The deadly shooting at Trolley Square is yet another illustration that we live in an unsafe world.
So, what do we do?
We hold our families closer. We remember what is important in life. We thank God everyday for the blessings we have. We keep His commandments.
Living the gospel to the best of our abilities must be ever present in our minds. We are not necessarily kept immune to the dangers present in this life. If a trudged is to befall you, it is important to keep an eternal perspective. None of us is perfect by any means. Doing everything in our power to strive toward that ideal is what will keep us safe in an eternal sense.
Keep doing what is right. Should something happen to end your physical existence, your place in the eternities is safe.
Remember always the Lord's commandment "Love One Another".

MY HEROES

Part 3

The Reality.

My Friend. Kirk. As Captain of the USS Enterprise, he became the most famous Starfleet officer in Federation history.

Out of the original 12 Constitution class starships, his is the only one to complete a full five year mission. And then do it a second time. His courage defined him. Never afraid to defend his ship and crew, Captain Kirk showed valor in every mission.

His declared mission was to "explore new worlds, to seek out new life forms and new civilizations..." but all he ever really wanted to do was make a difference. Kirk worked to uphold the freedom of all sentient life forms that he met in his travels. He defended the Federation from aggressive enemies and promoted the ideals of freedom and justice.

Captain Kirk believed in the same basic truths that the founders of the United States put forth in the Constitution. That every human being has an inborn right to freedom.

Justice for all that have been treated unjustly.

The American Way? The tradition of unselfishly defending the above items.

This world is imperfect, there are always people who will do evil. Superman's battle is never ending. So must ours be.

Superman is selfless. He is a great example of doing for others despite one's own safety. He charges into battle, defending innocents, regardless of any danger to himself. While he is invulnerable, he would do the same if he could be harmed. If Superman was a mortal human, his heart and courage would be the same.

Superman saves people regardless of their station in life. He would rescue a homeless man just as sure as he would the President of the United States (Yes, even the current one).

Superman has always stood as a patriotic symbol. He was shown fighting against the enemies of World War 2. If not for political correctness, I am sure he would be shown fighting the enemies we face today. In my mind, he is.

Though fictional, Superman embodies all the best of humanity.

Family First

What is the most important thing in your life? I know what it should be.

For me it is my wife and children. There are people who know me who would tell you otherwise. I can only say that I know what is in my heart. My wife Audrey is the greatest example of showing Christlike love. She accepts people without judgment. When she hears about someone's troubles, the first thing she says is, "How can I help" ?. This may sound trite but, I couldn't live without her.

My daughter and son bring me smiles everyday. They are my inspiration and hope for the future. I am truly blessed to have this chance to be the Earthly custodian of two of God's children. I try to remind myself of that everyday. I have the daunting responsibility to teach them the true meaning of their Eternal origin. And Eternal destiny.

The problems and struggles of daily life can be made a little lighter. How? Keep your family close and love them. The Family is the only thing you can take with you into Eternity.
